Where Legacy, Land, and Sustainable Innovation Meet
A Life Connected
to the Land
Long before championship trophies and long before sustainable golf became a global conversation, the Casper family lived close to the land.
My father, Billy Casper, not only shaped golf history — he also owned and cared for a large cherry orchard when I was growing up. We learned firsthand what healthy soil, clean water, and responsible stewardship meant. Watching seasons change across those rows of cherry trees taught us that land isn’t just something you use — it’s something you care for, protect, and pass down better than you found it.
That understanding would later guide my father’s environmental values in golf, and eventually guide my own path into land restoration and conservation.

A Legacy Rooted in Golf — and in Protecting the Environment
As most people know, my father battled severe allergies to fertilizers, sprays, and course chemicals throughout his PGA Tour career. What fewer know is that this experience made him one of golf’s earliest advocates for safer course management and environmental responsibility.
He believed deeply in caring for course ecosystems and reducing chemical exposure — long before the industry fully realized the importance of sustainable turf practices.
That philosophy — protect the land, protect the people — is the foundation of Casper Eco Life.
Salt Creek Golf Club — The Turning Point
In 2018, while managing golf courses for Pacific Hospitality Group in Southern California, I oversaw Salt Creek Golf Club in Chula Vista. It was a beautiful course facing a severe challenge:
Water bills often exceeding $60,000 per month.
With drought conditions tightening, we knew something had to change. That led to a small test on Hole #12 of a product we had just learned about: Biochar Now.
Founder James Gaspard personally visited the course to help us apply the material. Supported by GM Armando Najera and Superintendent Rob Browns, we went into the test with cautious optimism.

Then the breakthrough came.
Within 100 days, water use in that treated area dropped by over 40% — with stronger turf and healthier soil.
Although Salt Creek eventually closed for unrelated financial reasons, the results were undeniable. That moment launched a seven-year partnership built on environmental impact, scientific validation, and a shared commitment to land stewardship.
From Family Orchards to Golf Courses to Global Land Use
The same principles that kept our cherry orchard thriving — water retention, soil health, nutrient balance — are the same principles Biochar Now enhances today.
That’s why Biochar Now is not just a golf solution. It’s a land solution.
It benefits:
- Farmland
- Vineyards
- Orchards
- Ranches
- Parks
- Water treatment facilities
- Mining and steel operations
- Environmental remediation projects
- And yes — golf courses
Wherever soil and water matter, biochar makes a measurable difference.
Why Biochar Now Works — For Every Piece of Land
